LOAD PIN LOAD CELL
AD9
(9 PIN "D" Series) Connector attached to the
end of a Load Cell or Torque sensor cable with a TEDS
( Transducer Electoric Data Sheet ) EPPROM. Used with
a DPM-3 Load Cell Meter, the Load Cell and DPM-3 will
self calibrate. This option is a real time saver.
Learn about Plug & Play Smart Sensors.
A Plug and Play Smart Sensor is a Sensor that is compliant to the IEEE
1451.4 Standard. TEDS, or Transducer Electronic Data Sheet, is a set of electronic data
in a standardized format defined within the IEEE 1451.4 standard. This data specifies what
type of sensor is present, describes its interface, and gives technical information such
as sensitivity, bridge type, excitation, etc. This information is stored in an EEPROM chip attached
to a sensor. By having this chip, the sensor can identify and describe itself to the
network and or Smart Load Cell Meter, thereby easing automatic system configuration. Let's
say you have a Transducer Techniques Load Cell or Torque Sensor with the
the proper instrument IEEE 1451.4 enabled Load Cell or Torque Sensor could be swapped in, self-identify,
and
work appropriately.
What are the advantages of Plug and Play Smart
Sensors?
Benefits that can be experienced now include:
Simplified troubleshooting
Reduced safety risks. It is no longer necessary to
"climb on machines" for connection verification
Reduced costs for set-up and tear-down
No recalibration is needed when replacing sensors
The data acquisition system can recalibrate itself
Advantages that will be available in the future include:
Integration with wireless transceivers
Elimination of large lengths of analog wiring
Reduced installation, maintenance and upgrade
costs of measurement and control systems
The opportunity to add intelligence to sensors
Can a legacy / non-TEDS sensor
be converted to a TEDS "Plug and Play" sensor?
Yes. A legacy / non-TEDS sensor can be converted to a TEDS "Plug
and Play" sensor. Transducer Techniques offers a CAL-TEDS service to convert your sensor to a TEDS "Plug and
Play" compliant sensor. The service consists of a connector, recalibration and a programmed
EEPROM. This will update a legacy / non-TEDS sensor to be capable of plugging into Transducer
Techniques IEEE 1451.4 compliant DPM-3 Smart Load Cell Meter.
What is Virtual TEDS?
Virtual TEDS is an online library of data sheets developed by National
Instruments (www.ni.com) that contain the same information that would be found in an EEPROM TEDS,
but exist for sensors not containing the EEPROM. This would define Plug and Play capability
for legacy / non-TEDS sensors. As a National Instruments Plug and Play Sensor Partner and a
National Instruments Alliance Member, Transducer Techniques has contributed the data for all
its sensors to the Virtual TEDS database.
What
parameters are included on a Transducer Techniques
TEDS chip?
